Day 2: The Fiduciary Duty: Your Best Interest, Always
The “F-Word” Every Artist Should Know: Fiduciary
What is a “Fiduciary Duty”? It sounds like dry legal jargon, but it’s actually your greatest protection. By law, a talent agent has a fiduciary relationship with their artist. This means they are legally required to put your financial and professional interests above their own.
If a promoter offers an agent a “kickback” to convince you to take a lower-paying gig, the agent is legally barred from taking it. They must disclose all conflicts of interest and fight for the highest possible value for your work.
The Bottom Line: Your agent is your champion in a room full of sharks. If they violate this trust, they don’t just lose a client—they can lose their license.
