Day 3: Agent vs. Manager: Who Does What?
Clearing the Confusion: Who Gets the 10%?
It’s a common mistake: “My manager handles my bookings.” While a manager might advise on your tour strategy, the Agent is the one who actually negotiates the contract, issues the “deal memo,” and handles the money.
- Manager: The “CEO” of your brand. They handle the big picture, the styling, the recording sessions, and the long-term vision.
- Agent: The “Head of Sales.” They focus exclusively on live performances, appearances, and sometimes endorsements.
The Bottom Line: You pay an agent to be a specialist. Because they focus only on the “deal,” they usually have better leverage with promoters than a general manager does.
