Interview Feature: Jamez T.
Q1. What inspired you to launch TJK Plus and later co-found Genisys Films, and how do these ventures reflect your personal philosophy on storytelling?
A: TJK Plus was born from my desire to create meaningful content that connects people through authentic storytelling. I have always believed that stories have the power to educate, inspire, and transform lives. As the media landscape evolved, I saw an opportunity to build a company that was not just focused on production, but on purpose-driven storytelling. Genisys Films was the natural next step. It allowed us to expand our creative reach into larger film, television, and documentary projects. Both companies reflect my personal philosophy that every story matters, and when told with honesty, creativity, and heart, it can leave a lasting impact on culture and communities.
Q2. What was the turning point that made you realize filmmaking and visual storytelling were your true calling?
A: The turning point came when I realized that visual storytelling could move people emotionally in ways that words alone sometimes could not. Whether I was creating content for brands, documenting real-life stories, or producing videos for artists, I saw firsthand how powerful images and narratives could be. I discovered that filmmaking allowed me to combine creativity, strategy, and purpose into one medium. From that point forward, I knew this was not just a career. It was my calling.
Q3. Your work is known for originality and authenticity. How do you ensure every project stays true to its core message?
A: Everything begins with listening. Before cameras roll, I spend time understanding the purpose, the audience, and the heart behind the project. Whether it is a documentary, a music visual, or a branded campaign, I always ask, “What truth are we trying to communicate?” Once we identify that truth, every creative decision is filtered through it. Authenticity is not something you add later. It has to be part of the foundation from day one.
Q4. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned from collaborating with influential brands and artists?
A: Film and branded storytelling help shape how people see themselves and the world around them. Stories influence conversations, perceptions, and even social change. I believe creators have a responsibility to tell stories that inspire hope, encourage understanding, and uplift communities. When used intentionally, media becomes much more than entertainment. It becomes a catalyst for impact.
Q5. As Co-Producer of Boyz Trip and Next In Line, what excites you most about these projects?
A: What excites me most is the opportunity to tell stories that entertain while creating meaningful conversations. Both projects challenge me to think bigger as a producer and storyteller. They push my creative boundaries by requiring me to explore new perspectives, new audiences, and new methods of storytelling while maintaining the authenticity that has become part of our brand.
Q6. What motivated you to create Creative Dreamers?
A: Creative Dreamers was inspired by the mentorship and opportunities I wished more young creators had access to while growing up. There are so many talented young people with incredible ideas, but often they lack resources, guidance, or encouragement. My hope is that Creative Dreamers becomes a bridge that helps young creatives discover their voice, develop their skills, and realize that their dreams are achievable through hard work, discipline, and faith.

Q7. How do you balance the creative and business sides of your career?
A: I remind myself that creativity and business are partners, not competitors. Creativity brings the vision, while business creates the structure that allows the vision to grow. I focus on building strong teams, creating systems, and staying organized. That balance allows me to remain creatively inspired without losing sight of the larger business objectives.
Q8. What challenges shaped your leadership style?
A: One of the biggest challenges was learning how to grow while managing limited resources. Building a company requires resilience, patience, and adaptability. Those experiences taught me the importance of leading with integrity, empathy, and accountability. Today, I strive to be the kind of leader who empowers others, embraces collaboration, and remains focused when challenges arise.
Q9. What role does film and branded storytelling play in influencing society today?
A: Stories influence conversations, perceptions, and even social change. The biggest lesson is that great success comes from great collaboration. The most influential people I have worked with understand that excellence requires teamwork, preparation, and mutual respect. Another lesson is that talent may open doors, but consistency keeps them open. The brands and artists who remain successful over time never stop evolving while staying true to who they are.
Q10. How does directing music visuals differ from documentaries or commercial campaigns?
A: Music videos are driven by emotion, rhythm, and artistic expression. They allow you to be bold, experimental, and visually creative in unique ways. Documentaries require patience and truth because you are capturing real moments and experiences. Commercial campaigns focus on solving a business objective while connecting emotionally with audiences. Each format requires a different mindset, but the goal is always the same: tell a compelling story that resonates.
Q11. What makes your partnership with Kyle Scott so effective?

A: Kyle Scott, founder of CanyonView Media and KeyScott Entertainment, and I share a commitment to excellence and authentic storytelling. We bring different strengths to the table, creating a powerful creative balance. He has an incredible eye for directing and visual execution, while I focus on producing, strategy, brand development, and storytelling structure. What makes our partnership effective is trust, respect, and a shared vision.
Q12. What is next for Jamez T., TJK Plus, Genisys Films, and Creative Dreamers Collective?
A: The future is incredibly exciting. We are continuing to expand our film, television, documentary, and branded content slate through TJK Plus and Genisys Films. Projects like Boyz Trip, Next In Line, and The Neighbors represent the direction we are heading as we pursue larger opportunities in the entertainment industry. We are also focused on growing Creative Dreamers Collective into a platform that equips aspiring filmmakers, storytellers, and entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed.
Q13. What advice would you give aspiring filmmakers?
A: My advice is simple: start where you are, with what you have, and never stop creating. Focus on mastering storytelling before chasing the latest technology. Build relationships, seek mentorship, and remain a student of the craft. One of the most influential people in my journey is 2X NBA All-Star and NBA Champion David West, who is my best friend, business partner, and trusted advisor. His leadership, discipline, business acumen, and commitment to excellence have had a tremendous impact on my professional growth and entrepreneurial vision. At the end of the day, filmmaking is about creating impact. Tell stories that matter, inspire people, and leave the world better than you found it. Dream big, stay humble, and work relentlessly.
