Day 4: The 10% Standard: Why It Matters
Headline: Protecting Your Profit: Why You Shouldn’t Overpay
The industry standard commission for a talent agent is 10%. Some boutique agencies or specialized “niche” agents might push for 15%, but anything higher should be a massive red flag.
Why is it 10%? Because the agent is a high-volume business. They represent many artists to make their overhead. If an agent asks for 20% or 25% of your gross income, they are eating into your ability to pay your band, your fuel, and your rent.
The Bottom Line: If the “math isn’t mathing,” walk away. A licensed agent knows the 10% rule is the gold standard for a reason.
