Don’t Get Shortchanged: How Agents Audit the Door

If your deal includes a “backend” (a percentage of ticket sales), you are at the mercy of the venue’s math. This is where “Settlement” comes in. Your agency (or a tour manager they’ve vetted) is responsible for “settining up” at the end of the night.

They look at the manifest: How many tickets were sold? How many were “comps”? What was the gross vs. the net? Without an agency’s oversight, a promoter might “forget” to mention 200 sold tickets.

The Bottom Line: An agency turns a “trust me” into a “show me the receipts” transaction.
